At first glance perhaps an unlikely subject, sunlight and shadow across the back of buildings, informal vagaries of backyards, washing lines, etc. A well ordered composition leads our eye around the picture from the strongly contrasted focal point. The picture shows an understanding of the principles of aerial perspective. Strong colours in the foreground trees, cooling and lightening in tone as they recede to the background. Cool greens balanced by warm orange of the buildings. |

This painting has a breadth and simplicity – most economical clear washes with a minimum of marks to convey considerable complexity. Lilac, yellows and greys are the colour ensemble |

Here is a masterly pastel work in the time-honoured classical tradition. An anatomical study in the tonal tradition – illusionistic rendering of light on objects and space. |

A bold coloured pencil drawing of an outcrop of weathered granite. Drawings come in many forms. This piece shows a miniaturistic attention to fine detail – a modulated blue orange colour scheme pervades and an obvious labour has been revealed as effortless. |
